Welsh National Ploughing
The Welsh Ploughing Association Rules
All rules will be strictly enforced
1. In the event of fewer than three entries received in any Class, that Class may be cancelled and, in any Class in which fewer than three competitors actually complete, the trophy or trophies (if any) shall be withheld if in the opinion of the judges, the work is considered to be below the required standard.
2. Starting time: a signal will be given at 10.00 hrs prompt to indicate competitors may start ploughing. After 20 minutes, split openings must be completed and all competitors in splitting classes must halt for 30 minutes while the split openings are judged. A second signal will be given to indicate ploughing may recommence. Competitors must complete opening splits in the time allowed, otherwise points may be deducted. A split opening means that no land shall be left unturned. The centre of the crown or ridge shall be directly above the centre of the opening split.
Finishing time: for the World Selection Classes 1, 2 and 3, a signal will be given at 13.50 hrs prompt when all the ploughs must be on the finished headland. Classes 4 - 10 will finish at 15.00 hrs and Classes 11 & 12 will finish at 16.00 hrs.
OVERTIME DEDUCTIONS
(Timed from the instant the plough is lifted out of the headland mark)
1 penalty point per minute
Deductions: 2 wheel marks = 10 points. Rolling = 10 points.
3. Drawing on the headland is forbidden. It is forbidden to draw any scratch or other mark on the headland with the plough, and on NO account must any plough be put into the ground on the headland, either before the starting signal or at any time during the course of the competition.
4. Should any competitors not claim their plot by 10.00 hrs, they will be disqualified except where good and sufficient reason can be given that the cause of delay is beyond the control of the competitor. In circumstances of unavoidable delay, extra time will be given, provided full details are reported at the time of any hold-up and the same are acceptable to the Judges and Committee.
5. No competitor, under any circumstances, is allowed to change their plot on the day. In exceptional circumstances, and only at the direction of the Field Directors, can a competitor change the plot.
6. The plot number stake as placed by the Committee in the V-shaped cut-out indicates the position of the sighting poles.
7. Assistance: no assistance allowed except for setting and removing sighting poles. In Classes 11 and 12 (Horse Ploughing), leading of horses by one assistant only is permitted. SPECIAL NOTE FOR HORSE TEAMS - AT NO TIME MUST HORSES BE LEFT UNATTENDED
8. Sighting and setting out: three sighting poles only may be used. The use of a guideline, footmarks, stones, sods or anything else instead of, or additional to, the three permitted poles is forbidden. Sighting poles (three only) may be positioned before starting times. One of the three sighting poles may be sighted beyond the headland mark if desired.
Where a competitor uses their own sighting poles, then the plot marker must be removed and not used as an additional pole for sighting.
